This alone is an attractive point to guests who wish to hire a car to explore the surroundings as well as the medina of Marrakech (you cannot drive or park within the walls of the ancient medina). Furthermore, this is one of the comparatively quieter areas of this lively slice of Moroccan life.
Named after the Spanish hometown of the riad’s owner, there is appropriately enough, a blend of Arab-Andalucian architecture in Riad Nerja. This is quite a new hotel, recently renovated, with its three bedrooms and two suites all featuring bathrooms decorated with tadelakt and zellige from Fès. The décor of the rooms includes lavish carpets and bright fabrics, which being typical of the Arabic style, can be both dramatic and finely detailed whilst avoiding looking kitsch.
Several bhous (seating areas) and a comfortable lounge, all surround the central patio. The saba, which is the space between the main door and the internal door, is UNESCO world heritage-listed. With Marrakech boasting around 300 days of sun a year, guests can take it in whilst on the rooftop terrace solarium. All the character and history of Marrakech is close at hand but the position close to the wall of the medina also makes Riad Nerja especially convenient for visitors who hire a car to explore the Morocco beyond the environs of the city.
